Dr. George Markovich is a recognized expert in joint reconstructive surgery emphasizing minimally invasive, tissue preserving techniques. His approach to patient care is simple: the most advanced state of the art techniques for the best possible outcomes in a caring environment.
George Markovich, MD, FACS received his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. Graduating with distinction, he was awarded a Health Profession Scholarship.
Following his medical school training, Dr. Markovich completed a fellowship in orthopaedic biomechanics and advanced rehabilitative research at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He performed his internship and orthopaedic residency at the University of Southern California. He also completed two fellowships in joint implants and reconstructive surgery, was Chief of Total Joint and Reconstructive Services for the U.S. Navy, and was the orthopaedic provider to the Navy SEALs.
Dr. Markovich is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and is one the nation's few surgeons who performs complex reconstruction of the hip, pelvis, and acetabulum (the cup in the pelvis into which the ball of the hip joint fits). To date, he has performed over 4000 joint replacement surgeries.
Dr. Markovich is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the American College of Sports Medicine. He is the only local elected member of both the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons and the Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He also is a member of the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, and the Lee County Medical Society.
He is the author of over 40 publications concerning joint replacements and biomechanics and has given numerous lectures regarding arthritis, cartilage grafting techniques, and pelvis, hip, and knee reconstructions. He is Director of the Joint Restoration Research Laboratory, whose mission is to advance the service and practice of orthopaedic joint reconstruction.
Dr. Markovich and his wife are the parents of three sons. They enjoy active outdoor sports, including running, weight training, and participating in triathlons.
